3 Favorite Florida RV Resorts

When we would RV only on the weekends or vacation, we were always on the hunt for the best resorts to stay.  Sometimes what you find online doesn’t match what you see in person.  We want to help families find the best RV resort in Florida for their vacation or full time living.

Here are our top 3 RV resorts from 2021!

Number 3:  Sun Outdoors Sarasota: Sarasota, FL

Sun Outdoors Sarasota offers a vacation resort feel and you don’t even have to leave the resort to enjoy your vacation.  You can also visit with your family that does not have an RV, because there are cottages also for rent! There is a large heated pool, a splash pad, two hot tubs (one that kids are allowed to use!), and a large water slide that is open on the weekend.  At the pool there is a bar and a restaurant.  The restaurant has great sandwiches and simple options for kids.  You can eat at the pool or take it back to your rig.  There is a playground, gaga ball, an arcade, two dog parks, lots of space to bike and scoot.  On the weekends you can get ice cream right next to the playground.  The gym is the best we have ever experienced at an RV resort.  The gym building has two floors, and there is an outside turf with workout gear.  There is also an indoor pool for lap swimming.  If you forgot to bring some of the  basics you can also check out the general store.

Another reason we loved this resort was because there are many things to do around this resort for families with small kids.  Here are a few of our favorites:

  • Myakka River State Park

  • UTC Sarasota Green

  • Siesta Key Beach

  • Mote Aquarium

  • Lakewood Ranch Main Street

We definitely want to come back to Sarasota and explore, there was so much more to do but we couldn’t fit it all into our trip.

Number 2: Sun Outdoors St. Augustine: St. Augustine, FL (Previously Compass RV Resort)

Sun Outdoors St. Augustine was a smaller Sun Outdoors resort with a more homey feel.  The staff was so welcoming and checked on us throughout their visit.  Our site was tucked under some beautiful oaks with Spanish moss.  There were weekly activities set up for families like bonfires with smores, movie night, ice cream night.  Our kids loved the scavenger hunt set up all around the park and they received prizes at the end.  The pool was perfect for swimming and tanning.  Right next to the pool there was a covered patio area with ping pong and bags.  There is also a park right off the patio.  It's the perfect spot for family and friends to hang out because there is so much to do right there.  On the weekends bands come and play on the patio.  There is also a small gym and two dog parks.  The large dog park was by far the best dog park we have been to.

We could have stayed at the resort everyday, but there is so much to do in St. Augustine as well.  Here were a few of the things we loved in St. Augustine:

  • Anastasia State Park

  • Shopping in Historic St. Augustine

  • St. Augustine Pier (There is a splash pad there you can use once you pay)

  • Trolley Tour

  • Castillo de San Marcos

  • Eating out on A1A (Burrito Works!)

  • St. Augustine Beach

  • Treaty Park

  • Hyppo Pops

  • St. Augustine Seafood Company

We will definitely be going back to St. Augustine, there was so much that we loved about the resort and the city of St. Augustine.

Number 1: Camp Margaritaville: Auburndale, FL (Previously Cabana Club Resort)

This resort is number one because it has everything right at the resort.  This is a resort that you do not need to leave.  Each RV site is gorgeous with a turf and patio.  There is landscaping that separates each site giving you a private homey feel.  The resort has a pool with a slide and a splash pad.  In the pool area there is also an arcade and a gym.  Just next to the pool is a tiki bar, a turf where many activities occur for the kids, and communal fire pits where families and friends can gather.  The resort is set up in a way that parents can relax and kids can have fun all right in the same space.  On the weekends there is entertainment, planned activities and food trucks.  The ambiance is so welcoming and relaxing.

Auburndale is a quieter town, but we found a few favorites around the area:

  • There is a bike path that runs near the resort and it goes for miles.

  • Downtown Lakeland

  • Legoland Florida

  • The Joinery Lakeland

We have already visited this resort more than once, and we will for sure be back!  If you need a place to kick back and relax, this is it!
